About the role

In the Manufacturing Processes department, we develop industrial processes that combine quality, performance, sustainability, and productivity from a long-term perspective within forming and joining technology, additive manufacturing, casting, heat and surface treatment. We are often involved at the early idea stages, working with applied concepts and product development.

You are involved in the entire chain from idea generation and formulation of the application/quote to practical planning and implementation. Our work is funded by national funding agencies or as commercial assignments.

Who are you?
You have a PhD in mechanics or physics, or a Master’s in Engineering with extensive research experience. You are interested in research and development and want to be involved in shaping future production. Being able to combine research questions with industrial understanding is central. Furthermore, you are used to work both independently and collaboratively and find it exciting to develop new knowledge and implement it in industrial applications.

You are used to working both practically and theoretically. In our lab, for example, you will carry out tensile tests and Nakajima tests, and then generating input data for FE simulations. You will participate in national and EU projects to further develop both numerical and physical methods of advanced material characterization. You will support customers in solving problems related to sheet metal forming operations, and materials in general. You will be shaping future production in cross-functional teams within all the technical areas of the department and implementing novel cutting-edge AI-technology.

As a person, you are analytical, outgoing, proactive, unprestigious and easy to collaborate with. You are fluent in English in speech and writing and can present results in an easy-to-understand manner, both orally and in writing.

What’s in it for you?
The Strategy & Concept group is part of Manufacturing Engineering (ME)organization. We have a wide responsibility area from Operational Development and Digital (OD/ Digital), Stamping die standard, Advanced Engineering, Structural Analysis (FEM), creating strategies for the future to Equipment engineering where we perform equipment projects and perform press line simulation. We are 10 employees in Sweden and 7 employees in China.

We are looking for a new team member that will work with press line simulations, in closely cooperation with Process engineers and Production Engineers.

What you’ll do 
As a Mechanization/Simulation Engineer you will focus on the tooling design for part transfer and press line simulation of different stamping processes. The role will include a lot of collaboration with colleagues globally to exchange knowledge and align. Your main responsibility is to support process engineers to develop feasible processes that deliver efficient production. The simulation is the tool for a virtual and online commissioning that is the key for a successful introduction in production.

Other tasks is to design robot tooling for part transfer between presses and simulate the stamping process for Volvo stamping lines on a global level. Furthermore, you will participate in development work of the software & working procedures. Alongside all above you will work with identify, diagnose, report and support process engineers, die design engineers and production engineers in method planning work, performing swept volume creations and virtual collision detections.?

Do you fit the profile?
To thrive in this role you have a Bachelor of Science, preferable in Automation and mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or similar areas. Alongside with several years of work experience in press line simulation or equivalent areas. We assume that you are fluent, both written and spoken, in both Swedish and English. We also think that you have worked in the tool Process Simulate (Siemens), Catia (Assy, Part design) and have knowledge about robotics programming (PLC) i.e. read  and understand content in a program, have knowledge about how a robot functions. 

Alongside that you have knowledge in Mechanical design of Fixtures, Tooling Design, Onsite commissioning incl. debugging and is familiar with stamping process e.g. can distinguish the process content independently. If you have some years of Die design or review experience is this meritorious for the role.
